The Cape Decision Lighthouse has a 10,000 gallon rain water cistern on the ground floor.
Water collects on the lighthouse rain deck roof and feeds the cistern for use throughout the facility.

CDLS volunteers drained the cistern last summer to assess the integrity of the inner walls and to repair hairline cracks on the exterior. Next summer we will be installing a new rain water storage system inside the cistern to improve water quality and to prevent future stress on the exterior walls.
