Cupola Restoration

The cupola at Cape Decision sits ninety six feet above sea level and houses the revolving light that guides mariner traffic around the cape. During the day it provides excellent wildlife viewing and sweeping views of southern Chatham Strait, the Spanish Islands, Coronation Island, Cape Ommaney and the Lighthouse Reserve.

CDLS volunteers addressed and successfully remediated masonry damage on the cupola roof deck this past summer to arrest water leakage into the walls of cupola tower.
Exterior masonry repairs at Cape Decision are part of our overall restoration plan. CDLS volunteers sealed all cracks on all horizontal surfaces at the lighthouse last summer as well as hairline cracking on the lower west wall due to water seepage from our rain collection cistern.
